Monkshood Flower essence (Aconitum napellus)

“Be compassionate with yourself.”

We made this flower essence in the foothills of the Taos mountains. The monkshood was growing, hidden in the long grasses near a small body of water.

This pant helps us to take responsibility for the darker parts of our being, of our characters.  The parts of ourselves that can be frightening to look at and admit to. It supports us in building relationship between the seen and unseen, the light and dark. It helps us to own the more challenging aspects of the self by helping us to have compassion for these parts.

Monkshood flower essence brings an earthed energy to the acceptance of all of ourselves. It brings a sense of reality to being wholly human – a sense of balance, enabling us to become more familiar with the underworld without getting lost in it.

I used to get frustrated when I felt that I had done a lot of healing only to find myself once again back in the depths and darkness of my being. Florian would remind me of Carl Jung’s famous quote, “No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.”

This essence helps at those moments when we are seeing the darker side of our natures for it helps us look with self-compassion and understanding of what it is to be human. It reminds us that we become stronger and more whole by accepting all parts of ourselves.
