Description
Energetic Properties: Endemic to the dry, higher lands of the Southwest USA, one seed juniper is an emblematic tree for the local indigenous peoples. Ceremony and ritual use included purification, smudging and protection from negative energies. It was traditionally used by the Southwestern tribes to protect against ghost sickness, which was believed to be when the spirit of a deceased person attached to a living person. Beads made from dried, hollowed-out juniper berries and called ghost or spirit beads were worn as a protective necklace.
Juniper berries are symbol of hope, nurturance and resilience because in the harsh conditions in which the juniper tree grows, the berries provide a huge resource for birds and wildlife in the winter months. They also provide medicine and food as well for local people as the berry is high in protein and aromatic oils.
Juniper is also used for relaxation, clarity of mind and as a protector of boundaries. A few drops added to magnesium salts in the bath is an effective soak for clearing stagnation of toxins and helping combat fatigue.
Aroma: The aroma of our one seed juniper berry oil is amazing. It starts off conjuring up the smell (and taste) of the seed with its familiar slightly bitter, acrid note, but very quickly moves into woody then slightly piney notes coupled with an amazing citrusy/spicey dry down. As with most oils it comes alive when marrying the natural oils of the skin.
