This ritual incense blend came from personal research to create an incense blend to use daily on my ancestral altar and as offerings to plants that I harvest in nature. I have blended local plants and resins that I handcrafted here in New Mexico with sandalwood chips that I collected at a distillery in Hawaii and resins from India.

I use it daily as an offering to my ancestors, in nature as thanks to the plants that I am working with or harvesting. It also makes an excellent smudging incense to clear and purify spaces and cleanse auras.

This loose incense blend is designed to be burnt on charcoal discs on a heat resistant plate or thrown onto an open fire. It is not intended for internal use. It comes with a set of 10 charcoal discs. We have chosen Three Kings coconut charcoal discs because they are natural and do not contain the chemical coating that makes other discs ignite fast. Bear this in mind when lighting as they will need a little more time to ignite. They are chemical-free, odorless and burn smoothly.

Juniper (Juniperus monosperma)
Juniper has been used by humans since prehistoric times. It has a purifying action on all aspects of the psyche (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies) when burnt and is considered sacred by many of the world’s civilizations. It was placed in the coffins of the dead or burnt during ritual sacrifices.

Sandalwood chips (Santalum album)
A tree that is native to India and was mentioned in the oldest Sanskrit texts. Helps us to step away from the intellect and analytical mind and sink deep into a place of inner knowing and visualization. It encourages the heart doorway to open and a clarity comes through our senses and perceptions making us feel lighter and more expansive.

Myrrh resin (Commiphora myrrha)
Myrrh brings the spirit into the physical and bring all aspects of life together—heaven and earth, light and shadow, birth and death, joy and suffering. “It strengthens the link between our crown and base chakras – the psychic centers at the base of the spine and top of the head. By so doing, the dreams and visions of the soul can find a channel for earthly expression and tap the force they need for their ‘magical’ realization.” (Gabriel Mojay, “Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit”, 2000)
Physically Myrrh’s powerful energy can be felt throughout the body. It pushes through physical and psychic blockages liberating and unifying. Take the time to feel its presence and you will notice that it helps us to stand within ourselves at the point where spirit, heart and body meet. It helps us to understand the suffering we have been through. It lets us see the wisdom of this suffering in the lucidity of our spirit. Its warmth penetrates our souls and bodies, caressing us and nurturing us on our earthly journeys. It has been used since ancient times to help women during the contractions of childbirth. In the same way it supports us as we birth ourselves.

Frankincense resin (Boswellia sacra)
Frankincense Purifies and uplifts. It opens our consciousness to the realms of spirit and growth through spiritual awareness. It’s calming energy allows us to rise above the heaviness of daily life and open the doors of perception to the subtler worlds around us. It connects us to our soul and brings clarity about our soul’s journey.

Pinon Pine resin (Pinus edulis)
I harvested this resin from the trees that grow around our home in the mountains of New Mexico. This was an important tree for the Native tribes of the Southwest and for me replaces the Scotts Pine of Europe that I love so much. This sweet resin touches a place deep within us. It protects and supports us.
