Description
Yerba Mansa root oil is a rare aromatic that is only distilled at very small scale in the USA. The aromatic profile of this oil is it self unique in that it is spicy/fresh with Piperitone and thymol (monoterpenes), while also having rooty, resinous warm spice notes coming from Methlyeugenol and Elemicine (phenylpropanoids). This combination of molecular families is quite unusual for a wild north American plant.
We distilled this yerba-Mansa essential oil from roots harvested on our friends ranch in southern New-Mexico. This geographic type is very noticeably different in smell and oil color to the central and norther New Mexican populations we have distilled in the past. It is well worth discovering. This version in very well balanced and more delicate than some of the smokier and earthier versions of the root.
Much of the habitat it occurs in New-Mexico has faced vast modifications. One of which being the subsidized planting of alfalfa fields. The low impact grazing model of this ranch allows for the plant to thrive and allows for our low impact harvests. 40% of processed for this oil, go to our friends Ranch and contribute towards safeguarding the farming activities that have allowed the plant to persist on his land, unlike much of his neighbors that have ploughed and planted this habitats over the years.
Here’s a blog post that we wrote a few years ago about what yerba mansa taught us.

Magdalena R (verified owner) –
hard to put into words the internal experience I had when I first inhaled the aroma of Yerba Mansa. Cathy advised I work with this being to deepen my relationship with the Dark Goddess, and I instantly noticed why upon closing my eyes — I was transported to el rio en el desierto (the river in the desert). Another incredibly powerful, incredibly alive aromatic ally. Thank you Cathy & team.
