Description
Energetic Properties: In Europe, varieties of salvia officinalis were used in ancient rituals for purification, protection as well as for clearing the mind and connecting with one’s intuition. It is rooted in medieval folklore as one of the herbs of the virgin Mary and recognized for its vitality. It was also included as one of the powerful herbs that the church in France called “herbes d’Aout” and were harvested and brought to the church to be blessed during a special mass for the Assumption symbolizing fresh energy.
Smell: A camphor, grassy fresh aroma with a note of rosemary. Emblematic of the complex, wild smells of the dry, aromatic shrubs that include species of lavender, sage and wild rosemary.
Perfume: Top to heart note
Constituents: We need to run precise GC-MS. Literature is limited for this local variety of sage.
Precautions: Although small-leaved sage (translation for the French cultivar name) has notably less thujone content than other varieties, it still demands precaution. Only use olfactorily. Contraindicated in pregnancy, breast-feeding and children. It is also advisable to refrain from its use if suffering from cancer of the female sexual reproductive organs or epilepsy.
